Disability Insurance

The Hartford

Disability benefits are provided by ARHS to full-time employees at no cost to the employee. Short-Term and Long-Term Disability protect your ability to earn an income in the event you are unable to work for a period of time due to an illness or injury.

Short-Term Disability

Benefit Amount: 60% of base pay to a maximum of $2,500/wk

Elimination Period: For injury, illness, or pregnancy, 7 calendar days. Benefits begin on the 8th day of absences from work.

Benefit Duration: 12 weeks for injury or illness, 8 weeks for pregnancy. STD benefits run concurrently with Family Medical Leave Ace benefits, if applicable.

What is the difference between Life and AD&PL? AD&PL pays an additional benefit if you are seriously injured or die during an accident. Basic Life pays a benefit if you die for any reason except those included in the Certificate of Insurance.

Long-Term Disability

Benefit Amount: 50% of base pay to a maximum of $15,000/month. Newly benefit eligible employees have Guaranteed Issue (GI) and can purchase a 10% LTD Buy-up to keep their disability benefits at 60%. Employees who did not elect the 1% buy-up option at GI, can complete an Evidence of Insurability during annual Open Enrollment.

Elimination Period: 90 days

Benefit Duration: For as long as you remain disabled, or until you reach your Social Security Normal Retirement (as stated in the 1983 revision of the Social Security Act), whichever is sooner. If you disability occurs at age 65 or older, your payment may be reduced.

Filing A Claim: IF you are already receiving short-term disability benefits, your claim will transition from short-term to long-term disability. The Hartford will assist you with this transition.
