Disability benefits protect your ability to earn an income. The Short-Term and Long-Term Disability Plans with Aetna provide income replacement in the event you are unable to work for a period of time due to an illness or injury.
Disability benefits are provided by ARHS to full-time employees at no cost. The chart below outlines the benefits for both short-term and long-term disability. Long-Term Disability buy up option is available. Contact Human Resources for rate information.
*Disability benefits for own occupation and mental health disabilities are limited to a maximum of 24 months. See summary plan description on the intranet for more information.
Benefit amount: 60% of base pay to a maximum of $2,500/week
Elimination period: For injury, illness, or pregnancy, 7 calendar days. Benefits begin on the 8th day.
Benefit duration: 12 weeks for injury or illness, 8 weeks for pregnancy. STD benefits run concurrently with Family Medical Leave Act benefits, if applicable.

Benefit amount: 50% of base pay to a maximum of $15,000/month
Elimination period: 90 Days
Benefit duration: For as long as you remain disabled, or until you reach your Social Security Normal Retirement (as stated in the 1983 revision of the Social Security Act), whichever is sooner. If your disability occurs at age 65 or older, your payment may be reduced.
How to file a claim: If you are already receiving short-term disability benefits, your claim will transition from short-term to long-term disability. Aetna will assist you with this transition.
